Viva Topics

Viva Topics is part of Microsoft's Viva suite, using AI to automatically organize content and expertise across an organization so people can find information and put knowledge to work. Since the system runs without human input, the challenge was keeping it running unattended — integrating ServiceNow and other non-Microsoft knowledge bases into SharePoint so users could reach related files and media tied to Microsoft-generated topics.

We started with competitive and comparative research into how similar products consumed data from external sources on a single topic — what information was surfaced and why, what filters existed, what metadata was shown. With that in hand, we designed several possible solutions.
