Warner Music Group Corp. is an American multinational entertainment and record label conglomerate headquartered in New York City. It is one of the "big three" recording companies and the third largest in the global music industry, after Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment.
Warner Music partnered with a large creative agency to create the first experience of reporting metrics on their artists, tracks, releases and other music industry related data. Unfortunately due to UX issues, many of those insights are hard to find and overall the experience is very complicated. How might we improve the experience and add features while also honoring the components in the original design?
Our process begins with the users of the product asking for the UX improvements they would like to see as well as users informing any new features being created. Next the Product Owner checks with our data team to make sure we have the right APIs to support the features. At the same time, UX research begins, paper and lo-fi prototypes are created. After research synthesis is concluded, the hi-fi prototypes are created. Those prototypes are then tested and the designs iterated upon. The designs under go further refinement before development begins. Finally, a testing period occurs after the real data is inserted onto the development site. Depending on user feedback and performance, the features may be further iterated upon.
Through monitoring the usage of the product (which is not available to the public), the analytics show an increase in new users with a decrease in session time. The qualitative feedback is also very positive from the users.
